As a Carpenter on our Facilities team, you will be responsible for cabinet fabrication, solid surface fabrication, integral sink install, etc. With over 1000 fire doors on campus, you may also assist with door repairs and replacements. You will work alongside a professional team of technicians to provide a safe environment for our staff to provide exceptional patient care in a timely manner. You will have the support of a strong leadership team with ample room for growth.

**Schedule: 6:00am - 2:30pm Monday through Friday.** You will primarily support Banner Desert Medical Center with possible assistance at other East Valley hospitals (i.e. Gateway, Baywood, etc.) when needed

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for conducting preventative and corrective work to the facility’s carpentry elements including but not limited to casework, millwork, solid surfaces, rough carpentry, trim carpentry, modular furniture, wall protection, hand rails, flooring, wall tiling and signage. Reviews carpentry elements for code compliance and compatibility to existing carpentry elements. Works with and assists other trades in completing required tasks.

CORE FUNCTIONS

1. Installs and services carpentry elements to complete repairs and modifications such as installing shelving, cabinets, partitions, and other carpentry needs. Keeps the designated manager informed as to the needs and or changes required to keep the facility operating in a safe and well maintained condition.

2. Replaces, builds, repairs and finishes casework and all associated hardware. Must be able to read understand and interpret blueprints, design and layout and estimates cost on various projects. Participates with all other divisions and departments to meet the facility carpentry elements, maintenance, installation and construction needs. Monitors outside carpentry elements specialty contractors to assure compliance with established hospital standards and recommends contractors where appropriate.

3. Monitors carpentry repair work, alterations and renovation upgrades. As assigned, monitors carpentry construction and installation activities. Monitors systems and installation processes to ensure the integrity of assigned carpentry elements and systems.

4. Instructs personnel regarding carpentry hazards to ensure the safe operation and use of equipment. Provides guidance, direction and oversight for carpentry training.

5. Coordinates carpentry components, materials and supplies at an appropriate level within budgetary constraints. Maintains carpentry replacement schedules and records to keep within the projected capital equipment budget. Provides input to the designated Facilities Services manager on department specifications for all components of the hospital’s carpentry systems.

6. Maintains records for facility compliance with all applicable Authorities Having Jurisdiction including local, state, federal and all other regulatory codes pertaining to any and all components of the facility carpentry systems. As required, attends annual code compliance training and performs other assigned duties.

7. Incumbents in this position work independently under general supervision. Fulfills responsibilities using specialized skills and knowledge. This position interacts with a wide variety of individuals including staff, co-workers, patients, physicians, visitors, regulatory agencies, surveyors, inspectors, contractors, and vendors. This position is facility based and has no budgetary responsibilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.

The position also requires skills and abilities normally attained with three or more years of diversified work experience as a carpenter and the ability to demonstrate advanced skills of carpentry elements and related fields. Must have working knowledge of carpentry elements and components. Must be able to exercise independent decision making and judgment in the performance of all duties. Requires the ability to work safely and effectively with carpentry elements and equipment. Requires Journeyman level and certification as required of applicable regulatory codes, such as IBC, UBC, Joint Commission, CMS, NFPA, State and local building codes. Effective verbal and written communication skills are required.

Must be able to work effectively with common office software programs. Must be proficient in reading and understanding related and required maintenance and construction documents.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Previous construction experience is preferred. 3-5 years of previous healthcare Facilities Services experience is preferred.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
